Odisha man gets 10 year RI for raping minor

Phulbani: A special court in Odisha today sentenced a rape convict to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) under POCSO Act.

Phulbani ADJ-cum-Special court pronounced the quantum of sentence today where the judge awarded 10 year imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 15, 000. In default of payment of fine, the convict will have to undergo an additional 6-month term in jail, the court ruled.

The convict Siba alias Sribatsa Digal of Manikeswar village under Raikia police limits had raped a minor girl while she was on her way to her maternal aunt’s in an autorickshaw.

The case dates back to November 2014. Based on a complaint filed by the father of the victim, a case (97/2014) was filed on November 28, 2014.

Digal was arrested and tried under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
