Odisha man gets 10-yr jail term, Rs 55k fine for raping minor

Phulbani: A Fast Track court here today sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for raping a minor girl about four years ago.

The designated POCSO court also imposed a fine of Rs 55,000 on convict Bhagirathi Malika.

The convict will have to spend seven months more in jail, if he fails to pay the penalty, Judge Bhaskar Chandra Sahu said while pronouncing the judgement.

Public prosecutor Banamali Behera was handling the case.

Worth mentioning, a Class 9 girl student of Brahmanigaon police station area had gone to her aunt’s house during summer vacation in 2018. Finding her alone in the house, Bhagirathi entered the house and raped her.
