Odisha man gets 12-yr RI for impregnating minor
Baripada: A local court here today sentenced a man to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment for impregnating a minor girl at a village in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.
The Additional District Judge (ADJ) V. Sujatha sentenced Mangal Singh, 30, to a jail term of 12 years and slapped fine of Rs 5,000. His jail term will be extended six months on failing to pay the fine.
The court pronounced the verdict after recording the statements of nine witnesses and medical report.
On the basis of the written complaint lodged by the victim’s father, a case was registered at Badasahi police station here under section of 376 (2) (i) (n) 6 of Pocso Act on 28th April, 2015.
As per the complaint, the accused had forcibly kept physical relationship with the minor and threatened her to face dire consequences if she reveals it to anyone.
