Odisha man gets life imprisonment for killing his father, elder brother

Baripada: Mayurbhanj Additional District Sessions Judge Prabir Kumar Choudhury today awarded life imprisonment to a person for hacking his father and elder brother to death at Dambarujharan village under Kaptipada police limits in 2014.

As per the case records, convict Sukadev Singh’s father Renga Singh and his elder brother Basu Singh was opposing him for preparing country liquor illegally in his home.

Sukadev had hatched a plot to eliminate his father and elder brother. He had hacked Renga and Basu to death with an axe after offering them liquor in his home on October 18, 2014.

Basu’s wife Gama Singh had lodged a complaint in this regard with Kaptipada police. Subsequently, the police had registered a case (96/2014) in this regard and launched a probe.

A few days later, convict Sukadev had surrendered before the court of Udala Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM). The case was shifted to Mayurbhanj Additional District Sessions Court in 2015.

The Additional District Sessions Judge convicted Sukadev after examining statements of the witnesses and other evidences, said additional public prosecutor Krushna Chandra Das.
