Odisha man gets life imprisonment for raping, impregnating daughter

Cuttack: A POCSO court here today sentenced a man to life imprisonment for raping and impregnating his minor daughter in Odisha’s Cuttack city.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on convict Suryamani Behera of Dagarpada here.

Suryamani’s wife had in December, 2018 filed a police complaint alleging that he raped his 15-year-old daughter multiple times. On the basis of the complaint, a case was registered under sections 376(2)(m)(n), 376(3) of the IPC and section 6 of the POCSO Act.

The victim later became pregnant and gave birth to a baby girl. The charge sheet of the case submitted in March, 2019.

Adjudicating the case, the POCSO court held Suryamani guilty and awarded him life imprisonment.
