Odisha man gets life term for raping daughter

Berhampur: A Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court here in Odisha’s Ganjam district yesterday sentenced a person to life imprisonment for raping his minor daughter.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the convict.

According to public prosecutor Narayan Panda, the person had committed the crime on March 28, 2017 at a village under Purushottampur police limits in the district.

He had raped her 14-year-old daughter in front of her two younger sisters in the absence of his wife. An FIR in this regard was lodged at the Purushottampur police station.

Adjudicating the case, the court, after examining 10 witnesses during the trial, pronounced the verdict.

The court also ordered the government to provide Rs 7 lakh for the rehabilitation of the victim.
