Odisha man hacked to death for opposing lewd text sent to his wife

Bhubaneswar: A man was allegedly hacked to death for opposing to objectionable messages sent to his wife’s smartphone in Balipatna area near Odisha capital here.

The deceased, identified as Akhaya Majhi of Banamalipur under Balipatna police limits, was allegedly assaulted with sharp weapons by a group of villagers over the issue yesterday. Akhaya succumbed to his injuries while being treated at a hospital in the capital city here today.

Balipatna police have detained two persons after registering a case in this regard on the basis of a complaint lodged by the victim’s wife Shrabani Majhi.

As per the complaint, a local youth, identified as Dilu, had sent an objectionable message to Shrabani’s mobile a few days ago. A quarrel ensued between Akhaya and Dilu after the former raised and an objection in this regard.

The issue was later solved amicably at the behest of Balakati outpost police. However, Dilu and a few others allegedly attacked Akhaya with sharp weapons last night. The victim sustained grievous injuries on his head, face, hands, legs and other parts of the body, said the complaint.

A few locals rescued Akhaya and rushed him to Balipatna Community Health Centre (CHC). He was later shifted to a private hospital in the capital city here after his condition deteriorated, sources said.
