Odisha: Man held for hacking wife to death over family quarrel

Kuchinda: The police arrested a man today on charges of hacking his wife to death with an axe in Odisha’s Sambalpur district. The deceased was identified as Bharati Bag (30) from Babejuri village under Kuchinda police station of the district.

The accused, Premchand Tirki was unemployed for past few months and his family was in deep financial trouble. Moreover, he used to return home inebriated condition often which was causing family quarrel.

Yesterday evening Premchand returned home drunk after spending a few days at his relative’s place. There was a heated argument between the couple till late in the night. In a fit of rage, Premchand hacked wife Bharati with an axe killing her on the spot.

Based on a complaint filed the women’s father, the police registered a murder case and arrested the accused.

A relative of the accused said Premchand is having a one and half years old daughter. Premchand’s elderly father is clueless about how to sustain himself and his granddaughter, the relative added.
