Odisha man jumps off police station’s roof, dies

Sonepur: A man died allegedly after jumping off the roof of Birmaharajpur police station in Odisha’s Sonepur district last evening.

According to reports, one Linga Amat of Thithipali misbehaved with the local Tehsildar over tube well-related issues in the area. The official informed the police about the incident, following which Amat was taken into police custody.

After being taken to the police station, Amat shoved a constable and climbed the stairs to reach the rooftop. He then jumped from the roof onto the ground sustaining critical injuries on his head.

He was immediately rushed to the Sub-divisional hospital and later shifted to VIMSAR in Burla, where doctor declared him dead.

The family members of the deceased, however, have alleged that Amat was thrashed to death by the police.
