Odisha man kills 20-day-old son, throws body into drain

Nabarangpur: In a highly shocking incident, a man allegedly killed his 20-day-old son and threw the body into a drain in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district.

The accused, identified as Basudev Jani (35) of Gaibandha village under Jharigaon police limits in the district has been arrested.

According to police sources, Jani, who has a wife and a 3-year-old daughter, had developed an extramarital affair with a woman of the area. As the woman became pregnant with Jani’s baby, villagers decided that she will stay at his house.

The woman had given birth to Jani’s son on June 10. Later on June 29, Jani took the baby boy with him when the infant was sleeping near his mother and absconded. Though the woman searched for her baby at various places, but in vain.

She eventually lodged a complaint with police on June 30. Police managed to nab the accused yesterday while he confessed to his crime during interrogation. Jani killed the baby by strangling the infant and threw the body into a drain, police said.

The body was recovered from the drain by cops today.
