Jharsuguda: Losing control over self due to huge loss in online betting, a man reportedly shot himself dead after killing his wife and minor daughter in Odisha.

The shocking incident was reported from Lakhanpur area in Odisha's Jharsuguda district on Wednesday night.

The deceased persons have been identified as Sujit Ray (37), wife Khusboo Ray (27) and daughter Arpita (12).

A murder case has been registered at the Lakhanpur Police Station and bodies have been handed over to the deceased persons' family. The police recovered a country made pistol, three bullet shells, and a mobile phone from a car.

As per preliminary investigations, Sujit Ray, an engineer by profession, was in debt due to a huge loss in online betting. To compensate for the loss, he borrowed money from different sources.

Unable to bear the financial loss, Sujit went outside with his wife and daughter in a car at around 3 pm on Wednesday, leaving his 3-year-old daughter at residence. As they did not return till late night, his younger brother Ajit lodged a missing complaint at Orient Police Station, said Sujit's father Samar Ray.

Following the complaint, the police tracked mobile phones of missing members and traced there whereabouts in Lakhanpur area. Based on the tracking of data input, the police reached the location and found three bodies inside a car, which had its engine running and AC on. Both the woman and her daughter had cloth tied over their eyes and Sujit was seated on driver's seat.

The prima facie suggested that Sujit had misled his wife and daughter before shooting them dead.
