Odisha man kills wife, dumps body in riverbed. Know why

Kalahandi: Even as daughters prove excellence in every field and make their parents proud of their achievements, son remains the top choice in male dominated society, where a husband can go to extreme level to be blessed with baby boy.

A heart-wrenching incident was reported from Deogaon village under Kesinga police limits in Kalahandi district where a man killed his wife for not giving birth to son even after 17 years of their marriage.

The accused identified as Uchhab Luhar murdered his wife Sukeshi and dumped her body in riverbed on the day of his second marriage with another woman to have baby boy.

The body remains were recovered from the riverbed during investigation by police on Saturday morning, just one and half months after the incident.

According to reports, Uchhab had married to Sukeshi 17 years ago and the couple has a daughter aged about 15 years old. However, he had been under depression for heir. He decided to marry another woman identified as Tarini for son.

Uchhab tied the knot with Tarini on June 16. On that day, his first wife went missing and nobody noticed it during the wedding function.

Later, the locals informed Sukeshi’s mother Roche Parabhoi of Goipita village under Bhawanipatna Sadar police limits about her daughter’s missing. She filed a complaint with Utkela outpost and later approached the Kesinga police along with few women’s group members to look into the case.

During the course of investigation, Kesinga police found that Sukeshi was killed and her body was buried in the Reta riverbed.

Police recovered the skeleton of the deceased from the riverbed on July 28 morning.

Police detained six persons including Uchhab for interrogation in connection with the murder of Sukeshi.
