Odisha: Man sentenced to life in 2015 human sacrifice case

Jajpur: A local in Jajpur district today awarded life sentence to a man in 2015 Kuakhia human sacrifice case.

Examining 24 witnesses in the case, the Court of Sub-divisional Judicial Magistrate, Jajpur, sentenced Deepak Barik to life and imposed penalty of Rs 35,000 on him failing to which he will serve additional six-month in jail.

Deepak was accused of killing one Abhisek Nayak of Rajendrapur village under Kuakhia police limits on February 26, 2015.

According to reports, Deepak had called Abhisek with an intention to sacrifice him. The next day, the youth’s body was found floating in a pond belonging to a temple at Rajendrapur village.

During investigation into the case, the police arrested the accused over suspected sorcery.
