Odisha: Man stabs friend to death in train over affair with his wife

Berhampur: A man allegedly stabbed his friend to death in Chennai-Howrah Mail in Odisha’s Ganjam district today over the latter’s extramarital affair with his wife.

According to reports, Rajeev Tarai of Bahadurpur village in West Bengal had gone to Chennai along with his father-in-law and friend Prasanjeet Tarai for the treatment of the woman.

While staying in a lodge in Chennai, Rajeev found his wife and Prasanjeet in a compromising position. A dispute erupted between Rajeev and Prasanjeet over the matter.

As all of them were returning in the train today, a heated exchange of words ensued between the two friends. It took a violent turn as Rajeev lost his cool and stabbed Prasanjeet with a knife.

The victim sustained critical injuries in the attack. The train soon stopped as other passengers pulled the chain.

On being informed, Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel reached the coach, rescued Prasanjeet and admitted him to the Khallikote Hospital, where he succumbed to injuries during treatment.

The RPF later handed over the accused to the Ganjam police. He was then arrested. Further investigation was underway.
