Odisha man stages theft at in-law’s house, arrested

Bhubaneswar: It may sound unreal, but true. A youth from Odisha staged theft at his in-law’s house in Odisha capital and was arrested for committing the crime.

The accused identified as Shaik Sazid was arrested today by Bharatpur police following a complaint by one Kishore Chandra Pradhan, a resident of Aiginia here.

As per police sources, the 33-year-old man hailing from Kasapa village under Mangalpur police limits in Jajpur district had earlier this month got married to the complainant’s daughter. He had told the girl’s family members that he works with an MNC in Dubai.

While the man employed as a chef with a well-known hotel in the city was already married, he lied to Pradhan’s family about his marital status and employment. Reportedly, the accused’s first wife stays with his parents at their village in Jajpur.

On March 24, the accused managed to steal gold jewellery worth over Rs 10 lakh and a high-end motorcycle from his in-law’s house when they were away.

After investigation, police zeroed in on the suspect after scanning the CCTV visuals. The footage revealed that a man wearing a helmet entered the complainant’s house on the day of incident. The physical appearance resembled with the accused prompting the investigators to grill him.

The suspicion grew as the valuables were missing from the locker even though it was locked. This gave the police the lead of some insider being involved in the crime.

Police not only were able to crack the case but also unraveled the fact that he was already married.

Bharatupr police recovered gold jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh and a Hyosung motorcycle of over Rs 6 lakh.

He was arrested and forwarded to the court today.
