Odisha: Man surrenders before police after hacking wife to death

Bhubaneswar: A man surrendered before police after allegedly hacking his wife to death over marital discord in Telkoi area of Keonjhar district in Odisha today.

The accused has been identified as Rathia Sethi of Ragada village under Telkoi police limit, sources said.

Rathia used to quarrel with his wife Sulochana Behera over dowry and other issues, villagers said.

The couple got engaged in an argument over some issues today. Soon, Rathia attacked Sulochana with an axe inside their home. Sulochana died on the spot, they added.

Rathia later surrendered before police and confessed to the crime, sources said.

Sulochana’s father, meanwhile, alleged that Rathia was torturing his daughter for dowry. The accused had also threatened to kill Sulochana a few days ago, said the victim’s father.

“We have launched a probe into the incident and a scientific team has been sent to the spot,” said a police officer.
