Kendrapara: A man and his wife were allegedly tied up and beaten up by his elder brother in public over family feud here in the district today.

Police detained the accused identified as Bijay Behera, a resident of Ramkanei village under Mahakalpara block.

Along with him, the police also detained four of his family members on charges of thrashing the couple Ajay Behera and his wife Rajani.

According to reports, Bijay and his younger brother Ajay were sharing bitter relationship for over past 15 years. The long-standing hostility between them turned uglier after the elder brother Bijay started constructing a house, which was opposed by Ajay on Friday morning.

After Ajay created hindrance in construction of the house, Bijay along with his wife and son beat him up. When Rajani came forward to defend her husband, she also became the victim. Later, the irate family members tied the couple with a rope, dragged them on the road and thrashed them without mercy.

When the locals intervened into the matter, the accused and his son abused them following which the duo had an altercation with the villagers.

Later, the villagers informed the police demanding arrest of the accused persons for brutal assault on the husband-wife duo.
