Odisha’s boy marathon runner Budhia Singh will not return to the Sports Hostel said his mother Sukanti Singh today after the mother-son duo arrived at the Biju Patnaik International Airport here from Mumbai.
“He will not stay there. He is not going to stay there anymore,” said the marathon runner’s mother to newsmen.
“Budhia will tell you what problem he faces there. He will tell you,” she said to reporters on being asked whether Budhia had any problem staying at the Sports Hostel. Budhia however, said he will take a decision on that after he reaches his home.
The boy marathon runner and his mother returned to the Odisha capital from Mumbai ending a month-long drama about his going missing or being kidnapped.
“No, I had not been kidnapped. I had gone to Mumbai on a tour. Publicity handlers of my biopic had taken me to Mumbai for a tour. No, I was not kept under detention,” Budhia said.
On being asked why he didn’t inform the Sports Hostel about that he said: “I can’t say.”
Notably, Budhia had not reported to the sports hostel in Bhubaneswar, where he is training since he was seven, after the summer vacation giving rise to speculations.
Twin City Commissioner YB Khurania informed media on July 17 that he spoke to Budhia Singh and his mother Sukanti over the phone adding that the mother-son duo is vacationing in Kodaikanal in Tamil Nadu. He had said the duo told him that they will be returning to Bhubaneswar around July 24- 25.
On the same day, Nayapalli police had registered a case of kidnapping in connection with Budhia’s disappearance following the report of Child Welfare Committee, Khordha.
Rumour had it that Budhia had gone to Mumbai in connection with the promotion of Viacom 18 Motion Picture produced sports biopic on the wonder boy ‘Budhia Singh—Born to Run’.
However, the director of the movie Soumendra Padhi had dodged queries on Budhia’s presence in Mumbai fanning further suspense over the issue.
