Odisha: Medical student drowns in Hirakud reservoir

Sambalpur: In a tragic incident, a medical student today met watery grave while taking bath at the Hirakud Dam in Odisha’s Sambalpur district today.

The deceased has been identified as Sumit Singh, a third year MBBS student of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) here.

According to sources, Sumit, who hails from Rajasthan, had gone to the dam along with his friends to take bath this afternoon. He accidentally slipped in the water and drowned in the reservoir.

On being informed, locals rushed to the spot and intimated fire brigade personnel who fished out the body from the reservoir.

The body has been sent for autopsy and. An unnatural death case was registered in this regard at Burla police station, the source added.
