Odisha medico duped of Rs 60 lakh for PG admission; Accused held 

Bhubaneswar: Khandagiri Police arrested a person on charges of duping a medico of a huge amount on pretext of helping the latter to get admission for post-graduation course in a medical college in Bhubaneswar.

The accused person has been identified as Debasish Mekherjee. He had allegedly cheated Asish Patnaik, a medical practitioner and resident of Shatabdi Nagar in Bhubaneswar, of Rs 60 lakh for facilitating his admission into PG course in a private medical college in 2018.

According to reports, the accused had taken total amount from Asish in three installments. After the doctor realised that Debasish was a fraud, he had asked him to refund his money. When the fraudster did not pay him back total amount, the victim approached the Khandagiri Police.

Based on a complaint, the police arrested the accused on Wednesday night. He will be produced before a local court today.

Police source said that the accused person is involved in several fraud cases. He has allegedly duped people of crores of amount impersonating himself as owner of a web channel.
