Odisha: MES JE arrested by CBI for taking bribe

Paradip: The CBI yesterday arrested a Junior Engineer (JE) of Military Engineer Services (MES) in Odisha’s Paradip for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a contractor.

The accused has been identified as Rajiv Ranjan. According to reports, Ranjan had demanded the amount from Pabitra Mohan Parida, a private contractor with MES in Paradip, for forwarding resume of six employees of the firm to the Office of GE(I), MES, Bhubaneswar for formal approval relating to the work order.

Parida lodged a complaint with the agency, following which a trap was laid by the CBI sleuths and the JE was caught red-handed at his office while accepting the money from the complainant.

Following the arrest, Ranjan’s office and residence here were searched by the CBI officers.
