Addressing the gathering Steel and Mines Minister Prafulla Mallick said, “I thank Tata Steel and admire its consistent efforts towards enhancing the life of the people in Odisha. Construction of model schools across the state will be immensely beneficial, especially to the children from underserved communities. It has helped us streamline and bring quality education infrastructure, which was not possible until a few years ago. These model schools will encourage children to enroll and study well.”

Speaking on this occasion Sunil Bhaskaran said, “The model schools will create the perfect environment needed for children from underserved communities to seek education and move forward in their lives.  We remain committed to implementing developmental initiatives in Odisha. Our numerous social endeavors in the state have always received thorough support of the government, without whom we would not have achieved success.”

Notably, Tata Steel has spent approximately Rs 4.57 crore for the construction of the model school and provided the required classroom infrastructure as well. Built by Jamshedpur Utilities and Services Company (JUSCO), a subsidiary of the company, the two-storey school building is spread across 25,000 square feet built up area.

It may be mentioned here that Tata Steel had signed MoU with the state government to construct 30 model schools across the state. This initiative by the steel major is part of the government’s grand plan of setting up Adarsha Vidyalayas in each block within the state. While three schools (Danagadi, Kamakhyanagar and Nayagarh) are ready, 11 schools are under construction. Tata Steel aims to complete building and hand over the schools to the government by end of 2018.
