Odisha: Minor girl killed in lightning strike while taking bath

Nuapada: In a saddening incident, a minor girl died when lightning struck her while bathing in a pond in Thongoromala village under Darlipada panchayat in Nuapada district today.

The minor girl, identified as Pramila Majhi (14) was taking bath along with family members and village women in the pond. At around 11.30 am, a lightning struck near the pond. Pramila fell unconscious following the lightning strike.

Pramila’s family members immediately took her to the Taraboda Primary Health Centre where doctors declared her brought dead.

After receiving information, local police officials reached the spot and sent the body was for post mortem. An unnatural death case has been registered at Taraboda police outpost.

A family member of the deceased said Pramila was on the pond embankment when lightning struck her whereas her family members had a narrow escape as they were inside the water.
