Odisha: Minor girl student’s throat allegedly slit by hostel mate in Angul; probe initiated

Angul: The throat of a girl student in a private educational institution was allegedly slit with the help of a sharp weapon late yesterday night by her hostel mate in Angul. The incident came to the fore after an FIR was lodged today in this regard at the local police station of the district.

The injured girl was identified as a Plus II First-Year student from Nakchi locality.

According to a source, the incident occurred when the minor victim was sleeping in her room in the ladies’ hostel. The girl is unable to express how the incident took place and who is involved in the crime. The family of the student lodged an FIR after she recovered a little bit from her mental shock.

The injured was rescued by the private college authorities and was rushed to Angul district headquarters hospital (DHH) in critical condition. She is now undergoing treatment at the health facility.

“We are also investigating the case from a suicide attempt angle. However, the exact reason behind the mishap can be ascertained only after a detailed probe,” a senior cop stated.
