Odisha: Miscreants attempt to kidnap youth for sharing obscene pic on social media; 8 held

Puri: Balanga police in Puri district detained eight persons for allegedly kidnapping a youth over sharing of obscene picture of a woman on social media.

The accused persons confessed to their crime before the police.

According to reports, some miscreants assaulted a youth identified as Dhaneswar Mallick of Ketakipatna village under Satyabadi Block in Puri district at his home at around 12 midnight yesterday and attempted to kidnap him in a car.

The panicked family members rushed to fellow villagers seeking help. Intervening in the matter, the villagers managed to detain the accused persons and informed the police.

Acting promptly, the Balanga police rescued Dhaneswar and detained eight persons, all were from Delang area, for interrogation in the case.

Dhaneswar, who was injured during abduction bid by the miscreants, was sent to Bhubaneswar for treatment at a hospital.

During interrogation, the accused persons reportedly revealed the reason behind their motive for abducting the youth.

Reports said that Dhaneswar had uploaded an obscene picture of a woman of Sakhigopal area on his Instagram account. Also, he used to abuse her over phone. Protesting this act, the detained persons attempted to kidnap the youth from his home.
