Odisha: Missing teacher found dead in Mahanadi; family alleges murder

Bhubaneswar: A teacher, who went missing yesterday, was found dead in Mahanadi river under mysterious circumstances in Sonepur district of Odisha today.

The deceased has been identified as Lokanath Nayak of Koshalpura village in Sonepur.

Nayak had left his home on a bike after receiving a phone call yesterday evening. However, he did not return home till late night.

Nayak’s family lodged a missing complaint with Biramaharajpur police after they failed to trace him, sources said.

However, Nayak was found dead in Mahanadi river near a bridge in Sonepur today morning. On being informed, police reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem after registering a case in this regard.

Nayak’s family members, meanwhile, alleged that some miscreants might have killed him and dumped his body in Mahanadi to give the incident a suicide angle.

Seeking an impartial inquiry into the incident and stern action against the culprits, Nayak’s family members along with the villagers staged a road blockade in the locality today evening.

The villagers relented and the agitation was called off after Sonepur SDPO Basudev Chhatria reached the spot and assured them of proper inquiry into the incident.
