Odisha MLA Kishore Tarai in soup over false affidavit, again

Bhubaneswar, Feb 1:

Days after Odisha’s Biju Janata Dal Kendrapara MLA Kishore Chandra Tarai landed in trouble after it was revealed that his father and wife’s name have been different in different poll affidavits, documents today emerged showing the MLA to have submitted his 2014 poll affidavit under someone else’s name.

According to reports, the declaration made in his 2014 poll affidavit submitted to the State Election Commission (SEC) shows someone known as Lenin Lenka as the deponent, while the signature at the bottom of the page reads the name of the MLA.

According to existing laws, both should have been the one and same person.

Making matters worse, the incorrect affidavit has been identified and verified by advocate GR Dash and notary Radha Shyam Chand of Kendrapara court, respectively. It also passed the scrutiny by polling officials.

Opposition BJP and Congress demanded action against the MLA over the issue. While Congress demanded his arrest, BJP hinted at moving SEC.

“This is not the first time. He has made similar mistakes before. A lawmaker who willingly makes such affidavits should be arrested,” said Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra.

“Biju Janata Dal must sack him from the party. We will certainly take it up with the election commission,” said BJP Spokesperson Sajjan Sharma.

The MLA, however, refused to comment on the issue.

It may be mentioned here that Kishore was recently in news after Congress leaders accused him of influencing the polls in his wife’s favour and fraudulently withdrawing nominations of rival candidates to ensure an uncontested victory for her.

The BDO was shunted out following the incident and Kishore announced that Babita would resign after poll results are published seeking a fresh mandate.

Besides, he was also accused of submitting false affidavits where his wife’s and father’s name appeared differently in different affidavits as we reported here and here.
