Odisha MLAs to undergo COVID-19 test before Assembly session

Bhubaneswar: All MLAs and staffers of the Odisha Legislative Assembly will undergo COVID-19 test before the commencement of the monsoon session of the assembly this month.

A decision in this regard was taken today at a meeting chaired by Assembly Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro to discuss the modalities and safety protocols for the MLAs and staffers ahead of the assembly session. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Bikram Keshari Arukha and Health Minister Naba Kishore Das attended the meeting.

As per the decision, the legislators and staffers will undergo COVID-19 test two days before the beginning of the assembly session. RT-PCR tests of the MLAs will be done and those testing negative for the virus will be allowed to participate in the proceedings. This apart, special seating arrangements will be made for MLAs above 60 years of age.

The tests will be conducted by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC ) and the Health Department.
