Odisha mountaineer Kalpana Dash scales Mt. Aconcagua

Odisha mountaineer Kalpana Dash has added another feather to her cap as she scaled Mt Aconcagua, the highest mountain outside of Asia and unfurled a flag of Lord Jagannath at its peak on January 16 this year.

Kalpana DashA native of Dhenkanal district, Dash had created history after becoming the first Odia to have scaled Mt Everest on May 21, 2008.

Aconcagua, the highest mountain outside of Asia with an elevation of 6960.8 metres, is located in the Andes mountain range, in the province of Mendoza in Argentina. This is also rated as the second highest peak in the world by prominence after Mt. Everest.

Dash had left home on December 30 2014 for Argentina and started her mission from the base camp on January 4 2015.

She was the only female member of the 13-member team of mountaineers that took on the treacherous Aconcagua expedition.

The team took 12 days to map the distance from base to the peak.

During her Mt Aconcagua expedition, she also scaled Mt. Bolt of the Andes range.
