Bhubaneswar: Odia youth Sidharth Routray did the winter ascent of Mount Kosciuszko on August 19 at around 11.02 am, a family member of the mountaineer informed today.

According to the source, it is mainland Australia’s tallest mountain at 2,228 metres (7,310 ft) above sea level and is located on the main range in the snowy mountains. The weather was bad on the day with minus 140C, a wind speed of 50 kilometres per hour and visibility was down to five feet.

Sidharth marked his completion of Seven Summit as per the mountaineer Bass List such as:

- Mt Everest, Asia, May 2022

- Mt Kilimanjaro, Africa, Oct 2022

- Mt Vinson, Antarctica, Jan 2023

- Mt Elbrus, Europe, May 2023

- Mt Denali, North America, June 2023

- Mt Kosciusko, Australia, Aug 2023

Sidharth is the first Odia to climb seven top peaks of seven continents. He is proud to have flown the Patitapabana Bana (flag) of Lord Jagannath on the top of each continent. He thanked the Almighty saying Jai Mata Di, Jai Jagannath and Jai Lingaraj for his rare feat.
