Odisha MP Anubhav Mohanty joins BJP after quitting BJD

Bhubaneswar: Actor-turned-politician Anubhav Mohanty today joined Odisha BJP. The MP joined the saffron camp in New Delhi. Mohanty was welcomed to BJP by the party’s senior leader Vinod Tawde.

Anubhav previously left the ruling BJD a couple of days ago and sent his resignation letter to BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik. The parliamentarian quit the party citing ‘personal’ reasons. However, he made it clear in his letter that he would contest the upcoming polls.

“After thorough introspection and careful consideration, I concluded that I would never quit politics or abstain from serving my Motherland. I will certainly represent the people of Odisha in every possible manner. My resignation from BJD is a necessary step not only in a personal sense. I resigned more to serve my dearest Motherland,” Anubhav had mentioned in his resignation letter.

Anubhav was elected to Rajya Sabha uncontested in June 2014 and is the youngest parliamentarian of the upper house. He was elected from Kendrapara Lok Sabha constituency by defeating the then sitting MP Baijayant Panda on 23 May 2019 on a BJD ticket.
