Odisha MSME entrepreneurs called upon to focus on tourism

Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) entrepreneurs in Odisha should focus more on tourism to create more opportunities, employment and better infrastructure.MSME Secretary Panchanan Dash said here on Tuesday.

Speaking at the 6th day event of Odisha MSME commerce fair, Departmental, Das said; “We need to discuss and explore ways to encourage MSME entrepreneurs who take interest in tourism sector.”

“The entrepreneurs should invest more in tourism as this sector presents greater opportunities to create more jobs, generate higher revenue and attract foreign currency. They should invest in roadside recreation centres, shops, water sports, adventure sports, development of tourism infrastructure and community participation,” said Tourism Director Ashok Tareniya advising the entrepreneurs.

Industries Director Nityanand Pilai highlighted the importance of the service industry around tourist places to accelerate the industry.

“The youth should get involved in ecotourism and MSME entrepreneurs should get involved in tourism to make it more attractive,” said Tourism Deputy Director Utkal Kumar Pati.

While Swosti Group of Hotels owner JK Mohanty talked about the benefits it would bring in to the requirement and service offering of hotel industry, Himanshu Dash of Odisha Travel Agents’ Association pointed to the generation of higher employment in the travel sector.

The workshop, organized by Odisha Tourism Department, was also attended by EPM director Bijoy Kumar Dash and Shitikant Sarangi.
