Odisha: Municipality Chief Engineer held; block chairman in Vigilance net  

Jajpur/Nabarangpur: Chief Engineer of Vyasanagar Municipality in Jajpur district was arrested by Vigilance officials on charges of demanding and accepting bribe.

Reportedly, Chief Engineer Prahllad Mohapatra had demanded Rs 38,000 from a contractor to pass a bill. Later, a trap was laid and Mohapatra was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe money from the complainant.

In a separate incident, officials of the anti-corruption wing conducted simultaneous raids on the residence of Chairman Tikam Singh Naik of Chandahandi block of Nabarangpur district for allegedly amassing property disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Officials of Koraput, Nabarangpur and Jeypore Vigilance divisions conducted the raids. Naik is accused of possessing disproportionate assets during his stint as the Chairman of Large Area Multi-Purpose Societies (LAMPS), sources said.
