Odisha nephrologist Chittaranjan Kar passes away

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s renowned nephrologist Dr. Chittaranjan Kar passed away at a hospital in Chennai this evening. He was 57.

Dr. Kar was airlifted to MGM Hospital in Chennai in October as his health condition deteriorated while undergoing treatment for post-COVID complications at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.

He had tested positive for the virus on August 20. After he tested negative for COVID-19, he was initially admitted to SUM COVID Hospital here and later shifted to AMRI Hospital here for further treatment.

His condition deteriorated due to lungs infection, following which he was airlifted to MGM Hospital for advanced Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation treatment.

Dr. Kar was Professor of Nephrology at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. He was in-charge of Renal Transplant Programme and Post Doctoral Certificate in Dialysis Medicine course of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) under the aegis of the Government of India’s Ministry of Health.

He played a major role in initiating kidney and cadaver transplant in Odisha.
