Dhenkanal: A newborn boy was rescued from a passenger restroom at Teramaili Chhak in Joranda area of Dhenkanal district in the wee hours today.
Sources said some locals first spotted the baby laying in a restroom at around 5.30 am today and handed him over to an Anganwadi worker. Later, a team of Child Line officials reached the spot and admitted the baby to a Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Natima for a medical examination. The health condition of the baby is stated to be stable now.
Meanwhile, police have begun an inquiry to find out why and who abandoned the baby in the place.
“The baby will be produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) that will pass an order for rehabilitation of the newborn. Most probably, he will be kept at a Specialized Adoption Agency (SAA),” said Mandakini Rout, a child Line official.
