Odisha: Newborn girl found abandoned in hospital toilet

Bhubaneswar: A newborn girl was found abandoned in the toilet of Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Odisha’s Bolangir district today.

The baby girl was found lying in a toilet of the female medicine ward of the health institute in the morning, sources said.

“Some patients spotted the baby girl in the toilet after they heard her crying in the morning hours today. They immediately informed the incident to the authorities of the hospital,” said a source.

Soon a few health staffers rushed to the spot and rescued the baby girl. The hospital authorities also informed the incident to police, sources added.

“The baby girl was found to be underweight during medical examination. She has been admitted to the special newborn care unit of the hospital. It is suspected that the mother of the newborn abandoned her soon after the delivery at the health institute,” said a health worker.
