Tension continues to prevail in the National Institute of Technology (NIT) campus in Odisha’s Rourkela as dharna by students demanding the arrest of the institute’s chief security officer (CSO) Balaram Champatiray who is accused of sexually exploiting a female security officer entered its fifth day on Sunday.
The agitating students have expressed dissatisfaction over the dilly-dallying attitude of NIT authorities in taking action against Champatiray.
The students are unhappy over the manner in which NIT authorities have lodged a complaint against the accused. Students alleged that the director was protecting Champatiray.
Meanwhile, Champatiray has fled from his official quarters late on Saturday night, reports said.
Notably, the NIT students on Wednesday had alleged that a woman security officer was sexually exploited by the institution’s CSO.
In order to cement their allegations, the students had shown photographs and videos of the incident to media persons.
NIT, Rourkela director Sunil Kumar Sarangi on Friday suspended CSO Balaram Champatiray on the basis of the preliminary report of the fact-finding team’s report and a complaint was lodged against Champatiray at the Sector 3 police station.
Earlier, on Thursday NIT authorities had debarred Champatiray from entering the campus until further orders.
