Odisha: No consensus on design of silver plate for Srimandir temple doors

Puri: A meeting between the Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee and different nijogs could not reach a consensus today on the silver plate design for the eight doors of Shree Jagannath Temple.

Sources said another meeting will be convened on November 9 to finalise the design of the silver plating.

A member of the temple managing committee, who was present during the meeting at the ‘Nilachala Bhakta Nivas’ today, informed the ‘Sata Pahacha’ gate of the temple will be initially gold plated.

Earlier in the day, a team of the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) examined the ‘Baisi Pahacha’ of the temple and took measurements of the steps. An official said some stones of the ‘Baisi Pahacha’ will be replaced in case those are found to be weak.

It is worth to be mentioned that a total of 2,413 kg silver donated by a devotee from Mumbai will be used for silver plating of the gates. The estimated cost of the donated silver is around Rs 15.32 crore.
