Odisha: Noted playwright Dr Bijay Mishra no more

Bhubaneswar: Eminent playwright Dr Bijay Mishra passed away at a private nursing home in Bhubaneswar. He was 83.

Mishra wrote 60 dramas and 55 film scripts. He won Kendra Sahitya Akademi award for his play ‘Vanaprastha’ in 2013.

He received Odisha Sahitya Akademi Award for his work ‘Jadukara’ in 1978. Also, he was honoured with Bioscope Award in 2016.

Mishra was born at Santaragadia village in Balasore district on July 16, 1936.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed deep grief at the passing away of Mishra.

“Late Sri Mishra was a leading dramatist of the contemporary times .His contribution to Odia literature and Odia film industry is immense,” said the Chief Minister.

Patnaik conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Expressing his condolence, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, “I am deeply saddened at the news of the passing of eminent dramatist Bijay Mishra. Due to his rich contribution to the Odia literary world and play, his demise is an irreparable loss to Odisha. May the departed soul rest in peace. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family.”
