Odisha: Nuapada Assistant Collector quits job, joins BJD ahead of Padmapur bypoll

Bhubaneswar: Nuapada Assistant Collector Mahendra Badhei today joined the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Odisha after resigning from his government job.

Badhei along with his supporters joined BJD in the presence of senior leaders of the party at Naveen Niwas, the residence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, in the capital city here.

Badhei, a native of Tal village under Padmapur Assembly constituency in Bargarh district, is quite popular among the local residents due to his social work.

Badhei has provided tri-cycles to several differently-abled persons, financial assistance to poor students and dry food to villagers during Covid-19 pandemic from his own resources, sources said.

Badhei’s entry into the BJD is likely to help the ruling party in the December 5 Padmapur by-election, sources added.

Badhei, meanwhile, thanked the Chief Minister for announcing Rs 200 crore input subsidy for the farmers of Odisha. He also took a pledge to work for the victory of BJD nominee Barsha Singh Bariha in the bypoll.
