Odisha official walks 4 km shirtless after assault by stone quarry mafia

Balasore: Sajanagarh Revenue Inspector (RI) K Santosh Kumar was allegedly attacked by stone quarry mafia in Baghamara area under Nilagiri police limits in Odisha’s Balasore district, today.

The attackers also tore the shirt of the official besides breaking his mobile phone and snatching his money purse. Being shirtless, Kumar had to walk for around 4 km to reach the nearest market to buy a shirt.

According to reports, the local Tahasildar, on being informed about illegal stone quarrying in the area, directed the RI to visit the spot and submit a report in this regard.

As Kumar reached the place and started recording the illegal activity with his mobile phone, the accused assaulted him.

The Tahasildar has lodged a complaint in this connection with the Nilagiri police.

“One Biswanath Das and his son, who were carrying out illegal blasting at the place, attacked the RI with iron rod while he had gone there. Biswanath was earlier arrested for similar offence and later released on bail,” the Tahasildar said, adding that direction has been issued for stringent action against the accused.
