Odisha: One more policeman succumbs to injuries in Boudh road mishap on NH-57

Purunakatak: Another policeman succumbed to injuries today while undergoing treatment. Two cops sustained grievous injuries yesterday after the motorcycle on which they were travelling was hit by a speeding car coming from the front near Kakharuphal locality on NH-57 in Boudh.

The injured were identified as Havildar Pramod Panigrahy and home guard Tukuna Behera, both working in Adenigada outpost under Purunakatak police limits of the district.

Havildar Panigrahy died yesterday in the hospital and home guard Behera died today, a source said.

The motorcycle had a head-on collision when it was on its way from Charichhaka to Madhapur. A leg of the Havildar got separated from his body and a leg of Tukuna was severely damaged in the road mishap. The injured were rescued by locals and admitted to hospital, an eyewitness earlier said.

Initially, the duo was admitted to Adenigada community health centre (CHC). Later, they were shifted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla for further treatment after their health conditions deteriorated, an official source said.

Locals had staged roadblock following the incident as ambulance vehicle did not reach timely.

However, unusual delay in ambulance vehicle reaching the spot irked many. Vehicular movement was completely disrupted for quite a long time due to the roadblock. The roadblock was withdrawn after Harbhanga tehsildar committed to provide a vehicle to the CHC within 15 days.
