Odisha: Over 200 seats vacant in medical colleges, spot counselling tomorrow

Bhubaneswar: As many as 232 seats are lying vacant both in government and private medical colleges across the State after second phase admission into MBBS and BDS courses.

The spot counselling will be held from August 20 to 22 to fill up the seats in the medical colleges, informed Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) Chairman Sudeep Kumar Chand.

The counselling was held in second phase for admission into 272 MBBS and BDS seats lying vacant after first phase admission. However, only 40 seats were filled in this phase and 232 seats are still vacant, he said.

According to reports, 95 seats are vacant in seven government medical colleges in the State and 35 seats at Hi-Tech medical college in Bhubaneswar. While 5 MBBS seats are vacant at SCB medical college in Cuttack, 27 at MKCG in Berhampur, 26 at VSS medical college in Burla, 11 at Baripada medical college, 14 in Koraput medical college and six each in Balasore and Balangir colleges respectively.

Similarly, 12 BDS seats are vacant at SCB Dental College and 90 at Hi-Tech medical college, informed OJEE Secretary Ranjan Kumar Jena.

The spot or mop up round counselling will be conducted from August 20 till 22 to fill up the seats. The students will join the colleges by August 26 and classes will begin from September 1.
