Odisha: Over one lakh cash seized from Congress candidate’s car
Koraput: Over Rs one lakh was seized from a car of a Congress candidate here during a drive to check unaccounted cash ahead of Lok Sabha elections, police said today.
The police, acting on a tip-off, waylaid Congress candidate of Koraput Assembly Krushna Kuldeep vehicle and seized a bag with cash worth Rs 1,09,500.
Kuldeep could not produce documents regarding the cash, following which it was seized, the police said.
As per the Election Commission of India (ECI), when the Model Code of Conduct is in force documents are required for carrying cash more than Rs 5,000.
The elections for 147 Assembly seats in Odisha will be held in four phases starting from April 11 to April 29.
