Odisha: Padma Shri tea seller D Prakash Rao hospitalized

Cuttack: D Prakash Rao, a tea seller from Cuttack, who had received the prestigious Padma Shri award for his contributions in the field of social work, has been hospitalized today after he fell sick.

As per the available information, Rao has been admitted to the Medicine intensive care unit (ICU) of SCB Medical College and Hospital here this afternoon after he complained of chest pain. He felt uneasy while attending a programme in Angul.

Notably, 60-year-old Rao received the coveted Padma Shri from the President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind at 2019 Civil Investiture Ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan on March 11 this year.

Rao, who has been selling tea since he was six years old, has been working towards providing education to slum children in Cuttack.

Besides, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also praised the Cuttack tea seller in his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat.
