Odisha panchayat polls: Voting to be held in 14 places on April 19

The panchayat polls, which were stalled due to death of candidates, will be held in 14 places on April 19, announced the State Election Commission (SEC) yesterday.

The move came after Orissa High Court revoked the stay order.

The panchayat samiti election was not held in Dhenkanal district’s Parjang, Kolabira of Jharsuguda district, Bhawanipatna of Kalahandi district and Rengali of Sambalpur district due to stay order by the high court.

The notice will be issued for filling the nomination papers at the offices of panchayat, block, sub collectorate and collectorate on March 17. The nomination papers will be scrutinized between 11 am and 3 pm from March 21 to 25. The final list of the candidates will be out on March 28. The last date for withdrawal of nominations will be March 30.

The voting will take place from 7 am till 12 pm on April 19. The counting of votes will begin from 1 pm on the same day. The results will be officially declared on April 20.

Similarly, the SEC will announce the date for the samiti member election of four blocks. The poll for block chairman and vice chairman will be held on May 1.
