Odisha: Patient’s relatives thrash doctors, nurses at hospital in State Capital; 2 arrested

Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police today arrested two persons for allegedly unleashing a reign of terror and severely beating the staff of a private hospital on Tuesday in Bhubaneswar.

The accused relatives of a patient thrashed the staff of the health facility located in BJB Nagar near Ravi Talkies Square under Badagada police limits here. The entire act has been captured on CCTV. Several doctors, nurses, and security personnel were injured in the incident.

According to a source, the patient who had multiple health complications was brought to the hospital for treatment. However, the hospital authorities advised the patient’s relatives to take him to any other health facility to avail of advanced healthcare, which was essential for the critical patient.

On the other hand, the kin of the patient insisted on treatment in the private hospital itself. Later, they took the patient to another hospital where doctors there declared the patient ‘dead’. Irked by this, they returned to the first hospital and severely beat its staff alleging delay in medical treatment.

The accused persons unleashed a reign of terror for quite some time inside the hospital.

Based on an FIR lodged by the hospital authorities, Badagada police launched a probe and verified the CCTV footage leading to the arrests. A detailed investigation into the incident is on.
