Odisha pays tribute to Netaji, Veer Surendra Sai

The birth anniversary of two of its greatest sons was celebrated across Odisha today. The 119th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and 207th birth anniversary of legendary freedom fighter Veer Surendra Sai was celebrated across the state.
Netaji’s birth place Jankinath Bhawan at Cuttack, which has been turned into a museum, witnessed a huge footfall with people from various walks of life making a beeline to the museum.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik offered floral tributes to the statue of the leader.
“Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose is the son of our soil. Cuttack is witness to his early life. His life is an example of rarest courage and patriotism. We all are proud of him. I pay my heartfelt tribute to him on his birth anniversary,” said Patnaik after paying tributes at Netaji’s birthplace in Odia Bazaar.
The museum was decorated for the special occasion. The galleries and the garden were the attraction of the visitors. The day’s programme started at 4 am with ‘Ram Dhun’ followed by yagna in the room where Netaji was born.
Besides, the photograph of Netaji’s spiritual guru was installed at the Spiritual gallery of the museum.
Also, books written by Netaji and articles used by him were also being displayed at a gallery along with his other belongings.
On the occasion, the chief minister inaugurated an album comprising of the Indian National Army (INA) freedom fighters from Odisha.
Apart from cultural programmes, a six-day exhibition on life and works of Netaji was inaugurated at the Lalit Kala Akademi regional centre at Unit 3 in Kharavel Nagar area on his birth anniversary.
Several political leaders from across party lines also paid floral tributes to Veer Surendra Sai, one of the earliest freedom fighters in the state, at his statue in the premises of the state Assembly.
Eminent citizens of Sambalpur garlanded Sai’s statue in the city. School students were seen marching in rallies and making rounds of the city.
Several programmes were organised at the revolutionary freedom fighter’s birthplace at Khinda on the outskirts of the western Odisha town.
