Bhubaneswar: Odisha government is planning to construct a quarters-complex for the VIPs including MLAs, ministers and bureaucrats in the capital city.

Without keeping space for lawn and other purposes, the government wants to build flat-like modernised houses in minimal area for accommodation of the legislators, ministers, IAS and IPS officers who are allotted big bungalows with long space in the heart of the city.

The proposed quarters will be built at Madhusudan Nagar in Unit-4 area of Bhubaneswar.

In view of the plan to evict more than 20 VIP quarters for construction of smart Janpath, the modernised government quarters will be built at Madhusudan Nagar area for the VIPs, said a source in Public Works department.

A blueprint has been prepared for the architect, plan and expenditure for the project. The tender will be invited following approval of the government. The construction will be completed in a year, he said.

The government is also planning to construct flat-like modernised quarters in future after evicting the quarters located in various areas of the city for using the vacant space for developmental work, he added.

According to reports, the Public Works department has made cost estimate of around Rs 43,27,53,200 for the project after the General Administration (GA) department made plan for construction of government quarters at Plot No. 960 in Madhusudan Nagar area.

As per the design, the quarter complex will be built in an area of 43,12,788 sqft having two blocks and parking system. There will be eight-storey buildings in each block. While block A will have 28 quarters with six bedrooms, total 14 quarters with six bedrooms will be built in block B. The quarter complex will be provided the tight security for the elected representatives as well as the officers.

There will be a podium, lobby, community hall for various programmes, multifaceted hall, gym, security guard room, driver room, waiting room and common toilet for the allotted persons. Each block will be equipped with fire safety measures, 24-hour water and power supply and two elevators with capacity of 13 persons each.
