Odisha Plus 2 Science student ends life over low marks

Sambalpur: While suicide death of a girl student of BJB College in Bhubaneswar remains still fresh in people’s minds, a Plus 2 Science student of GM College here was found hanging in the backyard of his house at Dhipapada village under Burla police limits late last night.

Reportedly, 18-year-old Rohan Kumar Guru, son of Gyana Bahadur Guru, took the extreme step as he received low marks in Plus 3 Science annual examination, results of which were declared yesterday.

Sources said he had scored over 90 per cent marks in Matric Examination. However, his score was below 60 per cent in the Plus 2 Board exam.

Due to the low marks, he hanged himself late last night. He was rushed to the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead. Later, his body was sent for post-mortem.

Police said investigation has already begun into the incident. The exact cause behind the incident will be ascertained after the probe.
